What they are saying about the new 2016 Honda HR-V

Published on July 24 2015

The 2016 Honda HR-V is now on sale, and ready to take on the world with its sporty design, great fuel economy, spacious interior, and unwavering reliability. Here is what some of the experts had to say about the 2016 HR-V, Honda’s newest subcompact vehicle

The cabin is impressively well thought out and is the HR-V’s best asset. As it uses the Global Small platform that’s shared with the Fit (features a centre-mounted fuel tank), the HR-V is blessed with the Fit’s rear Magic Seat that makes carrying almost anything possible. The large 688 litre, low and deep boot is easily accessible and terribly user-friendly. Overall, the HR-V is only marginally “tighter” than the CR-V as its total interior volume is of 2,721 litres compared to 2,873. The HR-V’s dashboard is currently the best sorted in all of Honda’s lineup. The exaggerated use of two screens that too often display redundant information was reduced to one screen and a touch-sensitive panel for HVAC controls. Aesthetically, it’s brilliant and functions just as well. The layout and ergonomics are clean and the use of available space is very good. The centre console is sleek with a number of integrated cubbyholes along its flanks, as well as below it. The seats are firm yet supportive and the driving position is good. Sitting slightly higher than the average automobile is a desired aspect, and the HR-V delivers here. – Auto123

The list of standard features for Canada explains in part why the base price is expected to be in the low $20,000. It includes a multi-view camera, automatic climate control, heated front seats, Display Audio with HondaLink, and remote entry. This is a fair bit of kit. The 2016 Honda HR-V is the smallest SUV in the Honda range, but it still offers between 657 liters (AWD) and 688 liters (FWD) of rear cargo space with all seats in place, and between 1,583 liters (AWD) and 1,665 liters (FWD) with the seat lowered. The trunk also happens to be deep and able to accommodate objects of all sizes. We should also mention the Magic Seat rear seat that offers multiple configurations to carry even more items, even those that are tall as they can be folded upwards. In total, there are five configurations for the back seat. The interior of the HR-V also offers several storage spaces everywhere, including one below the center console. Although it’s a bit hard to get to, it can swallow quite a bit of that annoying stuff we tend not to know what to do with once we get inside our car, like our wallet, phone, and keys – EcoloDriver

Honda says that the HR-V "defies conventional," but I disagree. It really doesn't take a lot of chances, but you know what? I'm perfectly okay with that. It offers a comfortable ride, a spacious interior, tech features that are pretty much expected in any vehicle in 2015, and a stylish exterior. If I want a convention-shattering vehicle, I'll likely browse the nearest Tesla pop-up shop or Bentley showroom. The end result is something that won't set the world on fire, but that undoubtedly compliments Honda's already well-rounded lineup of vehicles. The HR-V is also currently my favourite vehicle in a segment that looks primed to expand in a big way very soon. The HR-V is produced in Celaya, Mexico, and goes on sale in the summer of 2015. – The Autonet
